Cybersecurity Experts Charged with Running BlackCat Ransomware Operation
Three cybersecurity professionals, specializing in responding to ransomware attacks, have been charged with secretly running their own ransomware operation.
They allegedly deployed ALPHV BlackCat malware against at least five US companies between May and November 2023, demanding millions in cryptocurrency.
- Ryan Clifford Goldberg, 33, former incident response manager at Sygnia Cybersecurity Services
- Kevin Tyler Martin, 28, ransomware negotiator at DigitalMint
- A third conspirator, who obtained the ALPHV affiliate account used in the attacks, remained unnamed
The indictment was filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida on October 2.
No comment from the accused or their affiliated organizations was mentioned in the Court document.
