Dealing with Critical Raw Materials Dependency
The UK and Europe are at a strategic turning point in addressing their dependency on critical raw materials.
According to Andrew Gomarsall, the more they rely on external suppliers, the more fragile their industries will become.
The thinktank points to the many critical metals such as rare earths, permanent magnets, gallium and graphite which are heavily supplied or refined in China.
A recent report by the EU Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) highlights China's increasing control and influence over supply chains, export restrictions and price-wars.
