In 2003, when the author first moved to Croatia, the restaurant menus were remarkably similar, with a joke circulating about a factory that printed menus for all restaurants in the country.
At that time, international food options were limited to Zagreb, with only a few choices available, including a Chinese and an Indian restaurant, both of which were subpar.
A notable milestone was the opening of the first sushi restaurant in the Kaptol Centre in 2006, marking the beginning of a new era in Zagreb's culinary scene.
How times have changed, not only in Croatia in general, but very much in Zagreb itself.
