Pascendi and the Pope Who Didn't 'Trust the Science'

Pope Pius X saw the infection of Modernism long before its effects became apparent.

In his encyclical Pascendi (1907), he described Modernism as a force that splits faith and science into "warring kingdoms", where one seeks to enslave the other.

Science, they say, concerns the “reality of phenomena,” and faith must confine itself to the unknowable and invisible.

This division may seem peaceful, but it is actually a "bloodless revolution". Pope Pius X's words, written over a century ago, diagnosed what we now call "settled science".

A key section of Pascendi addresses the relationship between faith and science, and is worth reading carefully.
