Argentina’s Milei got this far with a chainsaw – now he must proceed with a chisel  - Monocle

Argentina's President Javier Milei

Argentina's president, Javier Milei, has been given the ability to turn his reformist agenda into law after a surprising midterm landslide.

After governing with less than 15% of congressional support for two years, Milei's La Libertad Avanza (LLA) and its allies in the centre-right coalition took around 40% of the lower chamber and a third of the Senate.

The chainsaw got him this far.

Milei must now move beyond theatrics and build alliances to pursue his mandate and gain momentum.

Author's summary: Milei gains momentum in Argentina's midterm elections.
