Upcoming Elections to Fill Vacant Legislative Seats
Several elections are pending to fill vacant legislative seats, starting Tuesday in the Lawrenceville area.
Voters will fill an empty seat in the Georgia House of Representatives, replacing Shelly Hutchinson, the Democratic state representative from Snellville who resigned in September.
- Muhammad Akbar Ali, a graphic designer from Lawrenceville (Democrat)
- Marqus A. Cole, an attorney from Snellville (Democrat)
- Jamie Parker, a realtor in Gwinnett County (Republican)
According to campaign finance reports, Ali raised over $40,000, while Parker reported $5,300 and Cole reported $4,200, mostly from himself.
Ali’s donors included several Democrats in office, including U.S. minority leaders.
