Wiedower resigns, special election to be held in Dec.

Resignation and Special Election

Marcus Wiedower, first sworn into office in 2019, announced his resignation from the Georgia General Assembly to focus on his role at Hillpointe, a real estate development firm.

His immediate resignation from House District 121 triggers a special election in December. Democrat Eric Gisler, currently running for the House seat in 2026, may also choose to run in the special election.

Recent History of Resignations

This is not the first time a State Representative for Oconee has resigned, triggering a special election. In 2017, special elections were held to fill the seats of Rep. Chuck Williams and Regina Quick.

That year, Democrats Jonathan Wallace and Deborah Gonzalez won both House seats representing Oconee County.

No comment from Wiedower on the future of the district.
