State Rep. Marcus Wiedower Resigns

State Representative Marcus Wiedower (R-Watkinsville) is resigning from his seat, prompting a special election to replace him.

Wiedower, a four-term legislator, represented District 121, which includes most of Oconee County and the southeastern portion of Clarke County.

“This decision has been incredibly difficult. Serving in the Georgia General Assembly has been one of the greatest honors of my life,”

He is stepping down to focus on his role as vice president of external affairs at Hillpointe, a rapidly growing real estate business.

“I look forward to remaining actively involved in our community and continuing to help tackle Georgia’s most pressing challenges, especially attainable housing through my work at Hillpointe.”

A special election will be called to fill the vacant seat.
