Volunteers Help Set Stage for Native Butterflies' Return

Volunteers gathered on Saturday to plant 1,000 prairie violets at the Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center in rural Spicer, Minnesota.

The goal of this project is to transform four hilltops into a display of color as native prairie flowers bloom and grasses change through the seasons, attracting native butterflies, particularly the regal fritillary.

What we're doing is trying to upgrade the habitat on those areas

said Scott Glup, welcoming over three dozen volunteers who devoted their Saturday afternoon to making this transformation possible.

The project aims to restore the native prairie to the landscape, providing a habitat for native butterflies to return.
