Eglin Battalion Chief and Wife Lose Home to Lightning Strike

Brian and Kimberly Johnson's house fire has sparked an outpouring of assistance from neighbors, firefighters and strangers across the Okaloosa County area.

On the evening of September 25, Battalion Fire Chief Brian Johnson’s home was struck by lightning, starting a fire. Brian, a DOD firefighter at Eglin Air Force Base, was home alone at the time.

"I heard the breaker trip in the laundry room, so I went and checked on it, and then I started walking around the house to see if I noticed the power being out or if anything was scorched or damaged,"

Brian said. He then heard another breaker trip and found smoke pouring from the breaker box, prompting him to call 911.

The community has rallied in support of the Johnsons, with neighbors, firefighters, and strangers offering assistance.
