Altered Photos Posing Challenges For NZ Immigration Advisers

Altered Photos Pose Challenges for NZ Immigration Advisers

Immigration New Zealand has expressed concerns over the increasing number of visa applicants submitting digitally altered photographs.

According to a report by Gill Bonnett for RNZ, the agency receives approximately 20,000 visa applications weekly, with around 1,000 containing filtered or airbrushed photos.

Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) deputy secretary Alison McDonald noted that social media has normalised the use of filters and photo-editing tools.

McDonald stated that this trend is causing significant difficulties for officials and is on the rise, as observed during the Association for Migration and Investment conference in Auckland.
