Microsoft Faces Court Action Over Alleged Misleading of Australian Customers
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has initiated proceedings against Microsoft Australia and its parent company, Microsoft Corporation, in the Federal Court.
The ACCC alleges that Microsoft misled approximately 2.7 million Australian customers regarding subscription options and price increases for Microsoft 365 plans after integrating its AI assistant, Copilot.
- Microsoft 365 Personal and Family plans with auto-renewal enabled were affected.
- Subscribers were told to accept Copilot integration and pay higher prices or cancel their subscription.
Since 31 October 2024, Microsoft has been allegedly misleading subscribers about their options.
