Several callers have reported the scam to sheriff's officials, which is circulating on local community Facebook pages and Facebook Marketplace.

These interactions are entirely electronic, with no in-person meetings or phone conversations. Once payment is made, the scammer disappears, leaving victims without a place to rent or a way to recover their money.
The sheriff's office has received several calls regarding the fraud and is warning the public to be aware of this online scam.
