Thoughts on the Orioles' Managerial Job
A new twist has been added to the secretive world of managerial searches, with University of Tennessee baseball coach Tony Vitello being considered for the San Francisco Giants' managerial job.
Although major league baseball has not typically hired managers from the college ranks, Vitello's excellent commentary on draft nights for MLB Network has made him a known figure.
Unlike the NFL and NBA, which have occasionally hired coaches from college, major league baseball has not followed this trend, with teams only occasionally adding college coaches to their staff, but not as managers.
The best hires, or at least the most interesting, seem to be the most unexpected.
