Pope boards sailboat to speak peace with young adults

Pope Speaks to Young Adults about Peace on Sailboat

Pope Leo XIV traveled to board the "Bel Espoir" sailboat, which had spent eight months sailing to 30 Mediterranean ports with rotating crews of 25 young adults from different countries and religions.

The young adults met their peers and discussed their faith and challenges to peace during their journey. At the marina in Ostia, outside of Rome, Pope Leo told them that the world needs "signs, witness, impressions that give hope."

The name of the boat and, even more, the efforts of the young people "are indeed a sign of hope for the Mediterranean and the world,"

he told them. The pope emphasized that living and working together on the boat has taught them the importance of dialogue.

Eight groups of young adults participated in the journey, each spending a month as crew members.
