The costume designer had access to the “whole” Tiffany archive, which started with an entirely different book-to-screen adaptation: Baz Luhrmann’s 2013 version of The Great Gatsby.
Christopher Young, Vice President & Creative Director of Tiffany Patrimony and Global Creative Visual Merchandising, worked on this movie, collaborating with Luhrmann to design Daisy Buchannan’s Art Deco headband and Jordan Baker’s sparkling cuffs.
However, Frankenstein called for something entirely different, with
“I was rather skeptical,”said Young, when the opportunity to work on Guillermo del Toro’s new adaptation came up.
His only reference point was the 1931 adaptation, but del Toro’s actual vision was a marblesque gothic saga with crimson capes and streaming pre-Raphaelite hair.
