AJ Smith and his teammate Nick Dang were waiting for the 2025 MLS SuperDraft results. Smith was at a Christmas party in Denmark, scrolling through a website on his phone that displayed the draft results.

- AJ Smith, a sophomore forward, did not expect to be drafted, saying
Nah, maybe next year, if I have a good season.
However, the draft results brought surprises, and now they are back and surging.
