A charity gala ball that ran for 17 years in Laois, making thousands for good causes, will not be returning this year.
The Portarlington Killenard ball was organized by friends Maria Corcoran, Marie Molloy, and Colette Kennedy, with the last event held in 2023, featuring Laois native and RTÉ star Claire Byrne as a special guest to raise money for the future Midlands Hospice.
"We decided to leave it for a while. People are saying to us that they have nothing to get dressed up for now, but you never known what we might think up next,"
said Maria Corcoran. The organizers cited increasing costs and decreasing margins as a reason for the decision.
Author's summary: Laois charity gala ball canceled due to high costs.
