Google Wallet rolls out nicknames for passes

Google Wallet Introduces Pass Nicknames

Following the Material 3 Expressive redesign, Google Wallet has rolled out pass nicknames and other features for developers.

The Google Wallet release notes for October 14, 2025, include the user-facing entry:

“Users can now add their own nicknames to passes to make them easier to organize in the Google Wallet app and website.”

This feature was first mentioned in the April 2025 Play Services Release Notes and joins existing nicknames for payment cards in Chrome, YouTube, and the Play Store.

To add a nickname, select a pass and tap the three-dot overflow button, then choose "Add a nickname" with a text field supporting up to 25 characters.

The nickname appears on the homepage on the second line of the pass after a middle dot, helping with organization.

Author's summary: Google Wallet now allows users to add nicknames to passes.
