Sequel to "The Passion of the Christ" Underway with New Cast
Mel Gibson's sequel, "The Resurrection of the Christ", has begun filming with significant cast changes.
The lead role of Jesus Christ, previously played by Jim Caviezel, will now be portrayed by Finnish actor Jaakko Ohtonen. In addition, Mariela Garriga will take over the role of Mary Magdalene from Monica Bellucci, and Kasia Smutniak will replace Maia Morgenstern as Mary.
- Peter will be played by Pier Luigi Pasino
- Riccardo Scamarcio will star as Pontius Pilate
- Rupert Everett will appear in a small but important role
The story takes place three days after Jesus' crucifixion on Good Friday, providing a logical reason for the recasting of several parts.
