Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is giving House Speaker Mike Johnson a 2-day ultimatum to schedule Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva's swearing-in ceremony, or she will take legal action.
Rep.-elect Grijalva, who was elected to represent Arizona's 7th Congressional District, has yet to be sworn in three weeks after her election. In a letter to Speaker Johnson's office, Mayes stated that the oath of office ceremony must take place before the end of the federal government shutdown.
Mayes announced the letter during the official canvas of the September 23 special election results, a procedural step in the election process, with the support of Arizona Gov.
Mayes threatened litigation if Johnson does not schedule Grijalva's oath of office ceremony by Thursday.
