A huge dead turtle was discovered on the beach between Aberdyfi and Tywyn on Saturday, October 11, by dog walkers and beachgoers.
The turtle carcass is believed to be an endangered leatherback, the only species of sea turtle to regularly visit the UK. Leatherback turtles are the largest of all sea turtles, growing up to a couple of meters long and weighing up to a tonne.
They migrate to the Irish Sea from the tropics during summer and autumn to feast on jellyfish. This summer, an unusually high number of jellyfish have been spotted in UK waters.
No comment from authorities is available at this time.
