Travis Head has been released from Australia’s T20 International squad for the final two matches against India. Instead, he will represent South Australia in the Sheffield Shield as part of red-ball preparations ahead of the Ashes series.
The decision, reported by cricket.com.au, reflects the selectors’ approach to managing senior players’ workloads and honing their readiness for the Ashes, which begins on November 21 in Perth.
Head featured in the first three T20Is of the five-game series before being given the option to continue in the white-ball format or switch to domestic red-ball cricket. He chose the latter, joining other experienced teammates returning to first-class action this week.
This shift toward red-ball cricket highlights Australia’s dedication to fine-tuning its Test squad with the Ashes less than three weeks away.
Head will partner with Alex Carey for South Australia against Tasmania beginning November 10. It will be his first first-class game since the West Indies tour in July and a key opportunity to regain form after a quiet white-ball period.
"The decision to release Head reflects a strategic move to balance workloads and focus on red-ball readiness," reported cricket.com.au.
Australia’s selectors released Travis Head from T20 duty to strengthen his red-ball form, emphasizing the team’s focus on Ashes preparation starting November 21.
