THUNDER BAY – Three local curling clubs benefited significantly from the proceeds of the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Organizers announced that funds raised from the 50/50 draw and 10% of ticket sales at the Fort William Gardens event would be donated to the Kakabeka Falls Curling Club, the Port Arthur Curling Centre, and the Fort William Curling Club.
Each club received a cheque for $52,940, aimed at supporting the growth of curling in Thunder Bay.
“Each club will get just under $53,000, which will go a long way in helping curling at the grassroots level,” said Diane Imrie, co-chair of the local organizing committee. “We had a great curling event and a legacy of the event is there.”
“Curling’s been a part of my life for more years than I want to know and the curling community in Thunder Bay has been really good to me,” said Rick Lang, co-chair and former two-time world champion. “I think this is a chance to volunteer and pay back the community, and really help the clubs out.”
Lang emphasized the importance of supporting local clubs especially when funding can be scarce.
The Scotties Tournament of Hearts has left a lasting legacy by generously supporting Thunder Bay’s curling clubs, ensuring grassroots development and community engagement continue to thrive.
