Blackmagic Camera App Adds Direct Streaming to YouTube and Twitch

Blackmagic has updated its free camera app for Android and iOS with features designed for streamers and professional broadcasters. The app now allows live streaming directly to YouTube, Twitch, and Vimeo without needing extra software or encoding devices. Users simply select their platform and enter a secure stream key.

During broadcasts, the app's controls remain accessible, enabling real-time adjustments to settings like exposure and focus. Additionally, the update introduces support for SRT, a modern streaming protocol favored by professionals for unstable or varying network conditions such as the internet.

Streamers can also use custom RTMP and SRT servers, offering more flexibility beyond the three built-in platforms. The app improves handling of external drives by providing instant alerts if a drive is disconnected, which helps prevent data loss during recording of high-resolution, high-framerate Apple ProRes files that cannot be recorded internally on iPhones.

“Both the Android and iOS versions of the Blackmagic Camera app can now stream directly to YouTube, Twitch, and Vimeo, removing the need for third-party apps or additional encoding hardware.”
“The update also adds support for SRT: a more modern streaming protocol frequently used by professional broadcasters that’s optimized for networks whose speeds and reliability are less consistent, like the internet.”

Key Features in the Update

Author's summary: Blackmagic’s camera app update enables seamless live streaming to major platforms with professional-grade protocols and safeguards against data loss, all without extra hardware.
