Vancouver Canucks Give Update on Demko's Availability

After missing practice on Friday, Thatcher Demko will not dress for the Vancouver Canucks' Saturday night game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The team confirmed the news, disappointing many fans who hoped for his return.

Sportsnet 650 reporter Brendan Batchelor noted that Demko participated in morning skate on Saturday, though he remains out of the lineup. Kevin Lankinen will take the start instead.

“ We had a conversation with him to take care of himself, and know, in a condensed schedule, when he feels he needs a little bit of time off, that’s what he’s doing,” said head coach Adam Foote.

Demko has had a strong start to the season, holding a 5–4 record with a .911 save percentage. According to MoneyPuck, he ranks fifth in the NHL for goals saved above expected.

With Demko unavailable, the Canucks made an emergency recall of Jiri Patera on Friday. However, Patera was traveling with the Abbotsford Canucks during their series against the AHL’s Colorado Eagles, leaving Lankinen and Abbotsford local goalie Alex Kotai to cover the practice session.
