NBA Notes: Pacers, Pascal Siakam, Kings, Russell Westbrook, Mavericks

Pacers and Pascal Siakam

Pacers forward Pascal Siakam remains optimistic despite the team's ongoing injury challenges. “It’s almost laughable,” Siakam said, via Dustin Dopirak of the Indianapolis Star. “As bad as it’s getting, I know there’s going to be another side of it.”

Indiana currently operates with a patchwork roster. Aaron Nesmith has increased his shot attempts from previous seasons, and rookie Jarace Walker's average attempts have risen from 4.8 to 12.6 per game this season. Coach Rick Carlisle described the situation as a survival effort:

“We have a lot of guys playing unusual positions, but the spirit is good.”

The Pacers hold a 1-6 record. For context, they began last season 11-15 before making it to Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

Russell Westbrook’s Return to Denver

Russell Westbrook returned to Denver and delivered a strong performance with 26 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists, though the Nuggets lost 130–124. Westbrook was candid about his relationship with the team:

“They didn’t want me back.”

Westbrook signed a minimum contract with the Nuggets last summer, played 75 regular-season games, and appeared in several playoff series. However, when his player option arose, he was effectively told not to exercise it.

Summary

Despite tough injuries and roster shifts, the Pacers maintain positivity, while Westbrook openly addressed his complicated exit from Denver.
