Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife Kayla announced the devastating loss of their baby daughter, Sterling, on Friday. The couple shared the news through an emotional Instagram post.
“Our little angel, we love you forever and you’re with us always. Our beautiful daughter went to heaven on Sunday, October 26. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through, but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
Vesia expressed gratitude to the Dodgers organization for their compassion and support during this difficult period. He also thanked fans and colleagues across the baseball community for their messages of love and encouragement.
“Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding, to Dodger Nation, the Blue Jays organization, and all baseball fans for your love and support. It has brought us so much comfort. Lastly, thank you to Cedars-Sinai and all the medical staff who helped Kayla and Sterling. Every person we met was truly incredible.”
The player also shared a touching black-and-white photograph showing Sterling’s small hand resting atop her parents’ hands. The cause of death has not been disclosed. Vesia had been away from the team since October 23, when the Dodgers announced the couple was dealing with a deeply personal matter.
