Egyptian rapper and artist MOND, previously known as Ilmond and Muhab, has distinguished himself in the Egyptian rap scene with a profoundly emotional style and themes rich in melancholy. His latest work marks a notable evolution in his visual identity, storytelling, and musical approach.
MOND’s new EP, Amen, consists of three tracks, all fully written, performed, and directed by MOND himself. The project delves into deep emotional struggles and introspection, focusing on internal conflict, identity, and self-realization.
The EP begins with a haunting voice saying:
ما تتهد يا ابني ("Calm down, son")
This voice confronts another persona marked by a confident exterior masking deep insecurity, delivering street wisdom and philosophical reflection. The title track presents a clash between two inner selves: one impulsive and rebellious, the other rational, cautious, and world-weary.
Following the opening, the track ID furthers the investigation into selfhood with looping sounds and repetitive motifs. MOND constructs a metaphorical barrier separating his inner world from outsiders—a gesture both defiant and protective—asserting loyalty to his close circle while challenging unfamiliar listeners.
The EP reflects MOND’s nuanced inner battles and artistic growth, revealing a complex interplay between vulnerability and guarded strength.
