An independent Russian investigative journalism project, Proekt (also known as Agentsvo), reported in November that at least 24 relatives of President Vladimir Putin hold jobs connected to the government. This level of nepotism is considered unprecedented in Russia since the Romanov dynasty a century ago.

The investigation highlights that not only Putin himself and the second generation of his family—which includes his children and nephews—but also the third generation, his grandnephews, have joined various government ranks.
Family Connections and Employers
- Relatives include members from Putin’s former wife Lyudmila Putina’s family and three women alleged to be his lovers: Alina Kabayeva, Svetlana Krivonogikh, and Alisa Kharcheva.
- Putin’s daughters, Maria Vorontsova and Katerina Tikhonova, are also employed in government-linked positions.
Positions Held by Putin’s Relatives
The roles occupied by Putin’s family members range widely from ministers and deputy ministers to jobs at influential state-controlled enterprises such as:
- Gazprom, the state gas giant
- Rusgidro, the state hydropower monopoly
- Dialog, a state propaganda outlet
- Sberbank, the state-controlled bank
- Russian Railways, a state-owned company

Separately, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto mentioned that Hungary and Russia are planning to sign a “significant nuclear cooperation agreement.”
