Walking out to chase 186 runs in Hobart last week, Jitesh Sharma, who replaced Sanju Samson as India’s wicket-keeper, played a composed yet aggressive innings. His unbeaten 22 runs off 13 balls guided India to victory by five wickets and leveled the five-match series 1-1.
In his first international appearance in four months, following a successful IPL 2025 season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the 32-year-old made an immediate impact. Despite being part of the Asia Cup 2025 squad, Jitesh did not play as Samson was the preferred keeper.
Reflecting on his performance, Jitesh credited former India and RCB wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik for helping refine his confidence and batting range.
“When I got to know I was playing the next match, I was very excited because I was playing a game after many days. I was trying to stay as calm and composed as possible and do things in my control. Special thanks to Dinesh Karthik because he has worked a lot with me,” Jitesh said via Star Sports.
“That’s why I was comfortable playing those shots. I just tried to show that I have come to dominate. I am a new batter and it is my first match of the series, does not mean I will take time. I showed good intent and it made the run chase easy.”
Jitesh Sharma made a strong comeback in Hobart, leading India’s chase with confidence and crediting Dinesh Karthik for boosting his batting range and mindset.
