9News Melbourne is set to bid farewell to one of its most beloved figures this month. Livinia Nixon, the city's well-known weather presenter, will sign off on November 18 after an impressive career spanning more than two decades.
Livinia Nixon, 50, first joined the network in 1997 and has been the weather presenter for 9News Melbourne since 2004. She announced her decision to step down on Friday, citing a desire to focus on her family as her sons enter high school.
"After 20 years presenting weather on 9News, I've decided to step back from this role," Livinia shared. "My sons will both be in high school and I want to be there to support them. It's been a privilege to be welcomed into viewers' homes for so long, but this is the right time for my family."
Livinia expressed the impact the role has had on her life and career while emphasizing that prioritizing her family is now her main focus.
"Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me," she said. "When I discussed it with our boys, they said, 'We're pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum.'"
Although Livinia will be stepping down from her weeknight weather presenter position, she will remain with the Nine Network in other capacities.
