Remembrance Day Every Day for Trumpeter Playing Last Post

David Ellerby has played the Last Post at the Woodstock Cenotaph on Remembrance Day for over 15 years. Reflecting on his tribute, he said, “It’s the least I can do for my part, for what they did,” honoring the men and women from the community who risked their lives for Canada.

“For me, Remembrance Day is every day, we can’t let it slide by,” Ellerby shared. He began playing the trumpet in Grade 4 and emphasizes the importance of remembering as veterans become fewer each year. “It’s part of our history,” he noted.

Ellerby also mentioned his wife’s uncle, who fought in the Battle of Ortona, one of the bloodiest battles involving Canadian troops during the Second World War as the Allies advanced through Italy.
