It has been 35 years since Macaulay Culkin's character in Home Alone single-handedly saved his extravagant suburban Chicago home from the mischievous Wet Bandits. The film has become an essential holiday tradition since its release.
When Home Alone was released on November 16, 1990, it turned 10-year-old Culkin into a holiday icon. Playing Kevin McCallister, a boy accidentally left behind by his family at Christmas, Culkin brilliantly defended his house from two clumsy burglars using clever traps, such as broken tree ornaments.
Directed by Chris Columbus and billed as a “family comedy without the family,” the movie continues to air every winter. Michael C., Kevin’s older brother Jeff, shared with Us Weekly:
“I think it helps fill that holiday movie hole that is calling back to Miracle on 34th Street or March of the Wooden Soldiers. Maybe those things you watch as a family that helps parents, in that way, get their kids’ hopes up for some sort of excellent ninja, defend-my-house holiday experience.”
Home Alone remains a timeless holiday film that blends humor and heart, embodying the spirit of resourcefulness and family tradition.
