On 3 November 2025, governments, civil society, and international partners gathered in Doha to focus on practical solutions for advancing social development and addressing some of the most urgent global crises. These include rising hunger and poverty, increasing inequality, and instability driven by climate change.
The discussions were part of the Doha Solutions Forum for Social Development and the inaugural leaders’ meeting of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. Both events took place alongside the Second World Summit for Social Development.
Opening the forum, the President of the UN General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock, emphasized a shift away from simply recognizing problems toward implementing proven solutions.
“Too often we face situations where we have no clear solution, no answer to the suffering we see, and it is heartbreaking,” she said. “Or we have the solution [but] we are either unable or unwilling to do what needs to be done, which is frustrating.”
“Today is different: we are here to avoid falling into those traps, to learn from each other; to benefit from good ideas; to join forces; and to live up to our common principles.”
This forum marks a renewed commitment to turning dialogue into effective action, encouraging cooperation and shared responsibility to tackle global social challenges.
Summary: The Doha forum highlights a global call for moving beyond rhetoric to united, practical efforts in solving urgent issues like hunger, poverty, inequality, and climate instability.
