Nashville Predators forward Ryan O’Reilly could become a notable trade candidate this season. On an episode of Oilersnation Everyday, David Pagnotta from The Fourth Period noted that O’Reilly’s name is surfacing again in trade discussions.
With Nazem Kadri attracting attention recently, the demand for centers is already apparent in November and is expected to increase as the season progresses. If Nashville does not start a serious playoff push soon, O’Reilly, who is a pending free agent, might be moved during the season.
The 34-year-old center is valued not only for his consistent production and leadership but also because his cap hit is just $4.5 million—a signing made early by GM Barry Trotz in 2023. At the time of the signing, O’Reilly’s production was declining, so he was seen as a stop-gap player to mentor younger teammates and eventually become a third-line center by the end of his contract.
Contrary to expectations, O’Reilly had a strong season with 69 points. Despite Nashville's struggles last year, he still scored 53 points in 79 games and has continued to maintain similar performance levels this season.
"O’Reilly remains a key presence for the Predators, but if things do not change, offers for the center could be too much for Barry Trotz to pass up."
Ryan O’Reilly’s combination of leadership, production, and affordable contract makes him a valuable asset, but Nashville’s situation could lead to a trade if the team falters.
