“Couldn’t believe it” – Chelsea star loses bet to Blues teammate
Chelsea midfielder Moisés Caicedo shared a humorous story about Palmeiras’ stunning 4-0 victory over LDU in the Copa Libertadores semi-final, which cost him a dinner with teammate Andrey Santos.
In an interview with ESPN Brazil, the Ecuadorian midfielder explained he was confident LDU would advance and made a friendly bet with Andrey, who supported Palmeiras to stage a comeback.
Caicedo, a product of Independiente del Valle, said he understood the “spirit” of Ecuadorian teams and believed LDU's 3-0 first-leg lead was enough to secure qualification. He went to bed expecting good news but woke up to the surprising result.
“I bet a dinner with Andrey Santos! I said it was impossible for LDU to lose in Brazil against Palmeiras,” Caicedo told ESPN Brazil.
The Chelsea star admitted he did not stay up to watch the late match. “When I woke up and saw 4-0… I couldn’t believe it!” he said.
Despite LDU’s loss, Caicedo praised the competitiveness of Ecuadorian football and recognized Palmeiras’ outstanding strength.
