British death row drug mule gran is wheeled out of prison

British Death Row Prisoner Lindsay Sandiford Leaves Bali Prison

After more than a decade on death row in Indonesia, Lindsay Sandiford, 69, was seen being wheeled out of Kerobokan Prison in Bali to prepare for her return to the UK. She had been convicted of smuggling £1.6 million worth of cocaine and had spent 13 years behind bars before being spared execution.

Witnesses reported that Sandiford, visibly emotional, covered her face during a brief handover ceremony at the prison. She was later transferred to Denpasar International Airport under official supervision.

According to Indonesian officials, Sandiford boarded a British government–funded flight, costing around £600, for the 20-hour journey to London Heathrow. Her poor health was cited as a reason for expediting her return home.

“More than a decade in one of the world’s worst prisons has taken its toll on her and she wants nothing more than to get back to the UK,” a source told the Mirror.

Sandiford, a former legal secretary, departed alongside another British prisoner, 35-year-old Shabab Shahabadi, who was serving a life sentence for drug offences and was also reported to be unwell. The two were officially handed over to British Ambassador Dominic Jeremy before departure.
