Sunshine returns Monday, bringing a warming trend to the Chicago area. Fox 32's Emily Wahls shares the latest forecast.
Sunday morning started very cold, with temperatures in the mid to upper 20s near and south of I-80. Most of Chicagoland woke up in the lower 30s, while Chicago itself stayed warmer with morning lows in the lower 40s. Gusty southwest winds in the afternoon helped temperatures rise into the low to mid 50s.
Tonight will be partly cloudy and breezy, with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s. Southwesterly winds will continue gusting around 25 mph overnight.
"It was a very cold start to our Sunday with temperatures only in the mid to upper 20s for some areas near and south of I-80! Most of Chicagoland woke up in the lower 30s, but Chicago held onto a little more warmth with morning lows in the lower 40s."
Southwest winds brought warmer air on Sunday afternoon, allowing temperatures to warm into the low to mid 50s.
The Chicago area will see a warming trend this week with highs returning to the 60s, interrupted by a brief cool-down and rain midweek before colder weather arrives for the weekend.
