The Roadrunners celebrate their 15th football season in 2025. As one of the newer FBS programs and in their third year with the American Conference, UTSA has built a remarkable story since its founding.

Program Origins and Growth

UTSA started its football program from the ground up. After a practice year in 2010, the team played its first official season as an FCS Independent in 2011 before joining the Western Athletic Conference in 2012. In 2013, UTSA transitioned into Conference USA and officially became an FBS member in 2014.

Record-Breaking Beginnings

The Roadrunners made an immediate impact, setting modern NCAA startup records in 2011 by drawing 56,743 fans to their first game against Northeastern State and averaging 35,521 fans over six home games.

Milestones and Achievements

Made first postseason appearance at the 2016 New Mexico Bowl in their sixth season.
Recorded their first win against a Big 12 opponent with a 17–10 victory over Baylor in 2017.
Claimed a memorable road win over Illinois of the Big Ten Conference in 2021.
Earned their first conference title in 2021 after defeating WKU 49–42, finishing the year 12–2.
Repeated as conference champions in 2022 with a 48–27 victory over North Texas, closing with an 11–3 record.
