Organisers received a seven-figure offer from Qatar to host the World Club Challenge, a game between the Super League and NRL champions. Both Hull KR and Brisbane Broncos considered the proposal due to its financial attractiveness and Qatar’s strong interest in securing the event.
Despite the lucrative offer, the two clubs have decided to keep the match in the UK next year. Hull KR, known as the Robins, will host the game in Hull. Both teams favored the UK location, expecting a sell-out crowd following Wigan’s successful 2024 campaign when they defeated the Penrith Panthers.
Paul Lakin, CEO of Hull FC, admitted the club was considering hosting the match at MKM Stadium after their Grand Final success.
The fixture’s final details are being confirmed, with strong confidence it will proceed as planned. The main challenge is scheduling, particularly if the match occurs at MKM Stadium during the week.
Hull City plays at home on the Saturday of that week, and the Robins are set to fly to Las Vegas on Sunday for their game against Leeds Rhinos at Allegiant Stadium.
"We were considering taking the game [to MKM Stadium] after our Grand Final success," said Paul Lakin, CEO of Hull FC.
Summary: Despite a lucrative offer from Qatar, Hull KR and Brisbane Broncos chose to keep the World Club Challenge in the UK, with Hull as the likely venue and scheduling being the main logistical hurdle.
