Hockey Canada recently teased the jerseys that the Olympic teams will wear in Milan, sparking mixed reactions from fans. Although the final roster submission deadline is still more than a month away, the jersey reveal has already caused debate.
The main point of contention is the use of black in the design, which some fans feel does not belong to Canada's traditional color scheme.
“I’ve never seen Black on a Canadian Flag,” tweeted @CalderSnub22 on X.
“I’ll never understand the obsession of adding black to our color scheme,” added @kjc_2599.
While the full design remains somewhat unclear, the jerseys are expected to feature thick black stripes on the arms and possibly include a black maple leaf similar to the one worn during the Beijing Olympics.
The Beijing team, which did not include NHL players, was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Sweden, increasing fans’ desire for a fresh look.
“So basically the same as the previous Olympic jerseys? Logos and strips look the same. Disappointing,” criticized @curmudgeonaf.
The jerseys will be officially unveiled on Thursday. If confirmed, this design will differ from what Team Canada wore at the recent 4 Nations Face-Off, where the predominantly red and white jerseys helped Canada win the tournament.
“It’s a shame because the 4 Nations jersey was elite,” remarked @DrCrackOfficial.
Fans have mixed feelings about Hockey Canada’s Olympic jersey tease, with many criticizing the prominent use of black and longing for a fresh color scheme.
