Chief nurse issues ‘flu jab SOS’ appeal

Chief Nurse Issues Urgent Flu Jab Appeal

England’s Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) has made an urgent appeal for those eligible to book their flu vaccination appointment promptly ahead of the peak flu season.

The call follows warnings from Duncan Burton, who noted an unusually early start to this year’s flu season, with particularly high rates among children and young people.

Booking Appointments and Eligibility

The CNO emphasized that only weeks remain before the worst of the flu season typically arrives and encouraged eligible individuals to secure their flu jab urgently.

NHS England announced that 2.4 million vaccination slots will be made available next week.

Vaccination Progress

Since the rollout began in September, NHS England reports more than 13 million flu vaccines have been administered across the country.

Currently, three out of five care home residents (59.4%) have been vaccinated, and 2.3 million doses have been given to eligible children.
