The NHS has issued a flu jab SOS, urging people in England to get vaccinated now, with only a few weeks remaining before the most severe part of the flu season begins. Health officials report an early surge in cases, appearing more than a month ahead of last year's trend.
Eligible adults are being encouraged to come forward immediately to ensure they are protected before the peak winter period. The NHS warns that flu cases have already tripled compared with the same period last year, putting extra strain on healthcare services.
“The flu vaccination is the best possible way to protect yourself and your loved ones against flu as we move into the winter months. It’s a quick and easy painless injection and it really will help you keep yourself and your family well through winter.”
Chief Nursing Officer for NHS Sussex, Allison Cannon, issued this appeal after receiving her own vaccination, emphasizing both safety and simplicity in getting the jab.
National data shows that NHS teams have already administered more than 13 million flu vaccines since the campaign began, totaling 13,299,775 doses. In Sussex alone, 428,297 people have been vaccinated, accounting for 43.7% of those eligible.
The NHS urges eligible residents to get their flu vaccine quickly, as early flu waves hit harder and faster ahead of winter, with millions already vaccinated nationwide.
