Thailand welcomed over 100 contestants on Sunday as the 74th Miss Universe pageant commenced in Bangkok. Among them was Cambodia’s entry, sparking discussions due to the strained relations between the two nations.
The pageant, themed “The Grand Universe: The Power of Love, The Power of Thailand,” is hosted by Thailand for the fourth time. Activities are scheduled through November 21 across Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya to showcase Thailand’s culture and tourism.
Thai Neary Socheata, known as Fiyata, traveled to Bangkok despite Cambodia’s national license holder, ELEVENTO9 Company, announcing Cambodia’s withdrawal a day earlier citing “unresolved situations between Cambodia and Thailand.”
Fiyata’s independent decision to participate triggered debates online within both countries.
“I’ve arrived safely in Thailand. Thank you for the warm welcome, kindness, and support from everyone. Your love truly means so much to me.”
She received a warm reception from Cambodian fans at Suvarnabhumi Airport and expressed gratitude for the support through social media.
The Miss Universe 2025 in Thailand highlights cultural unity amid regional tensions, with Cambodia’s contestant choosing to participate despite official withdrawal.
