The city will honor its fallen at the annual Remembrance Service and Parade on Sunday, November 9. Service personnel and veterans will join the Mayor of Sunderland for this event.
The parade, led by personnel from the 3rd Battalion The Rifles—holders of the Freedom of the City—will start at 10:35 a.m. from the top of Burdon Road. It will be accompanied by the British Army Band Catterick and Bearpark and Esh Colliery Band.
As in previous years, two field guns from the 4th Regiment Royal Artillery—also with the Freedom of the City—will fire from Mowbray Park to mark the beginning of the two-minute silence at 11 a.m.
This will be followed by the annual wreath-laying ceremony around the war memorial and on the memorial wall, which was funded by the charity Brothers in Arms to honor those who died in service after WWII.
