Marnus Labuschagne believes he hasn’t been in such good form since before the 2019 Ashes series in England. After being dropped from Australia’s Test squad for the West Indies series, the right-hander has shown exceptional performance for Queensland ahead of the Ashes starting November 21 at home.
Labuschagne has scored five centuries in his last eight innings for Queensland across first-class and List-A cricket. In the Sheffield Shield, he posted scores of 160, 159, 18, and 4. In the One-Day Cup, he began the season with innings of 130, 2, and 105, and recently added another century, scoring 101 off 111 balls against New South Wales on November 3.
“The only one I can think of is probably 2019 at Glamorgan as a period of time. But probably not across both formats. With both formats I feel like batting is in a really nice place, just trusting my skills and trusting myself out there ... It's all coming together,” said Labuschagne, as reported by Cricket.com.au.
Determined to maintain this strong run, Labuschagne emphasizes the importance of rhythm in batting. He said,
"I feel like whenever you're batting badly, you just need to get that rhythm and that feel. And once you've got it, you protect it like it's gold."
He aims to capitalize on his current purple patch to secure a Test recall and make a significant impact in the upcoming Ashes series.
Labuschagne is in peak form, blending confidence and skill to potentially dominate the Ashes series starting soon.
