A heartfelt display of remembrance and community spirit will take pride of place at St Editha’s Church this Remembrance Sunday, created by Maureen, a 76-year-old tenant at Tamworth’s Annandale sheltered housing scheme. With help from her daughter and granddaughter, Maureen has produced a striking poppy-themed art installation that celebrates both family and remembrance.
The artwork will be featured at the church entrance, where Maureen will accompany the Mayor of Tamworth during the commemorative events. Her creative process began in the Annandale communal lounge, which turned into a lively workshop filled with handcrafted poppies representing courage, sacrifice, and service.
This meaningful tribute is inspired by Maureen’s own years of service, adding a deeply personal touch to the project. The initiative also showcases how community engagement can bring generations together through shared purpose and remembrance.
“It is an absolute honour to see this beautiful tribute come to life in Tamworth. Maureen’s dedication to remembering those who served, alongside her family’s involvement, is truly inspiring.” — Councillor Chris Bains, Mayor of Tamworth
Maureen’s poppy installation unites generations in Tamworth through creative tribute and remembrance, symbolizing courage, service, and the enduring spirit of community.
