Universal Pictures is developing a new Mummy film featuring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, who are in talks to reprise their iconic roles from the original franchise. The studio, sources confirm to Deadline, is reviving one of its most beloved action-adventure series.
Radio Silence, the directing team behind recent horror projects, is set to direct the film. The screenplay is written by David Coggeshall, known for The Family Plan and The Deliverance. Producing the movie will be Sean Daniel, a longtime franchise collaborator, alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein from Project X Entertainment.
This project represents a reunion for Radio Silence and Project X, who recently collaborated on rebooting the Scream franchise and the horror sequel Ready or Not: Here I Come for Searchlight Pictures.
Fraser and Weisz originally starred in two popular Mummy films: the 1999 The Mummy and the 2001 sequel The Mummy Returns. Both films were directed by Stephen Sommers and are based on Universal’s classic movie monster from the early 20th century. Together, these films grossed over $400 million worldwide.
