Miss Universe 2025: Nawat Itsaragrisil Addresses Tensions

The 2025 Miss Universe pageant, set to take place in Thailand, has been overshadowed by significant tension. Nawat Itsaragrisil, vice president for Asia and Oceania in the Miss Universe Organisation (MUO) and head of the local organising committee, issued an apology to the contestants during the Live Opening Ceremony on November 5.

“Everybody knows the past few days have been a lot of pressure. I think you must understand that the pressure is a lot. But I have not intended to harm anyone,” said Nawat.

He continued,

“I respect all of you. But I have to say that I am so sorry that it happened. I want to offer this opportunity to apologise to the delegates if anyone was not comfortable with what happened. I’m sorry.”

Nawat also extended his apology to fans worldwide:

“I am sorry for the Miss Universe fans around the world.”

Controversy Involving Miss Universe Mexico

On November 4, Nawat faced criticism after publicly shaming Miss Universe Mexico, Fatima Bosch, during a live broadcast. This incident led reigning Miss Universe, Victoria Kjær Theilvig, along with several other contestants, to walk out in solidarity with Miss Mexico.

Miss Universe Organisation's Response

In a statement released on November 4, the MUO reiterated its dedication to collaborating closely with the host community, the Miss Grand International Organization (MGI), and other local partners to ensure the pageant’s success.

“We reaffirm our commitment to working closely with the host community, the Miss Grand International Organization, and all local partners to ensure the continued success of the pageant.”

Author’s summary: Nawat Itsaragrisil apologized for recent tensions and a public incident with Miss Mexico as the Miss Universe 2025 pageant aims to move forward with strong local and global support.
